LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government has launched a unique rehabilitation programme for child beggars, in which children will be encouraged to get educated and their parents will be provided with jobs.

During the pandemic, the number of child beggars in the state increased dramatically. Child beggars have been identified throughout districts, according to State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Vishesh Gupta, and a specific programme has been implemented for them.

He went on to say that some people had been witnessed forcing children to beg, and that such people would be prosecuted. "We will maintain a close eye on crossings, malls, markets, and places of worship to identify and prosecute those who force youngsters to beg," he stated.

The programme will be implemented by a number of departments and non-governmental organisations. The children who have been rescued will be linked to government programmes. Each district will also establish a Child Labor Rehabilitation Fund.

A Bal Shramik Vidya Yojna has been launched to bring children into the mainstream of school, and children from low-income families will benefit from the Mission Shakti programme.  Their parents will be counselled as well, and the children will be enrolled in basic schools.

The women will be provided skill training, while the males will be linked to MGNREGA, to ensure that the families of these children are skilled and equipped to take up work.
