US commerce secretary meets India PM Modi

NEW DELHI: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with United States secretary of commerce Gina Raimondo, who was in India from March 7-10, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday. The meeting took place on March 10.

The US Secretary of Commerce, @SecRaimondo, had a productive meeting with PM @narendramodi on Friday, according to a tweet from the Prime Minister's Office.

In addition to meeting with Piyush Goyal, minister of business and industry, Raimondo visited with other ministers during his four days in India.

Earlier on Friday, India and the US reopened their commercial negotiations to talk about supply chain challenges and reach an agreement on a joint semiconductor venture.

On Friday during the India-USA Business Dialogue, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Piyush Goyal delivered a press conference together.

Building supply chains, encouraging sustainable energy cooperation, talent development, and post-pandemic economic recovery for start-ups and small businesses were some of the emerging topics that were the focus of the discussion.

Both dignitaries talked about the strategic alliance between the US and India as well as bilateral trade and economic cooperation, especially through the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) and the Indo-Pacific Economic Forum (IPEF).

The last India-USA Commercial discussion was held in February 2019. Since then, due to covid pandemic and other factors it could not be held.
