Lucknow: After the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, there is going to be a battle for the Legislative Council (UP MLC election). Notifications for the 36 Legislative Council (MLC) seats in the state will be issued on Tuesday, while voting will be held on April 9 and results will be released on April 12. After securing a majority in the assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now eyeing to dominate the Legislative Council with a thumping majority.

After winning the elections with a thumping majority in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP, which is preparing to form the government again, now its next target is to win the MLC elections. The Samajwadi Party (SP), which fought more vigorously in the assembly elections than last time, is in the process of retaining the seats of the Legislative Council. All the leaders who are demanding tickets for the assembly elections from both parties are now expecting from the MLC elections, so the losing veterans are also trying to reach the House through the Legislative Council.

30 seats will go to the polls in the first phase of MLC and six in the second phase. The nominations for the first phase will start from March 15 and will continue till March 19. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 21, while nominations can be withdrawn till March 23. At the same time, nominations for six seats in the second phase will start from March 15 and March 22 is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 23. Nominations can be withdrawn on March 25. Voting for both phases will be held on April 9 and the results will be out on April 12.
