Chamoli: Another body was recovered at Sumana in Niti Valley near the Indo-China border in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Monday, taking the death toll in the avalanche to 13. Chamoli District Disaster Management Officer Nk Joshi said that another body was recovered in the morning from the accident site in Sumana.

10 bodies were found on Saturday and two on Sunday from the avalanche site on Friday. With this, 13 people have been confirmed dead in the accident so far. He said the bodies are being brought to Joshimath for postmortem. Eleven of the deceased, who were residents of Jharkhand, have been identified. At the same time, those injured in the accident are being treated. Five of the injured are admitted to Joshimath Army Hospital while two others have been referred to Dehradun.

Sumana, about 25 kilometers from Malari village, is located at the confluence of two streams from the Dhauliganga river, Girthigad, and Kiogat, and at the time of the avalanche, construction of border roads organization was going on on the spot where the workers were working. Chamoli DM Swati Bhadauria said 384 people have been evacuated safely. Regarding the missing persons, he said that information is being sought from border roads organization officials. He said assistance will be provided to the victims of the incident soon.
