HYDERABAD: Beginning in the new year, a new generation Vande Bharat train is expected to run between this location's Secunderabad Railway Station and Vijayawada in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

This will be the second train of its kind in south India and the first such indigenously-built semi-high-speed rail in South Central Railway (SCR).

Last month, the inaugural Vande Bharat service between Chennai and Mysuru was introduced in south India.
The Secunderabad-Vijayawada route of the Vande Bharat train has received sanction from the Railway Ministry.
G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of Northeast Region,  who represents Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, is keen to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the new service.
After the railway officials have finished upgrading the tracks, the exact date for the event will be decided.

In February, there are plans to extend the railway to Visakhapatnam. According to sources, a feasibility assessment on running the train between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam will soon be conducted.

Secunderabad-Vijayawada Vande Bharat would be the sixth such high-speed train in the nation, officials said.
On February 15, 2019, the inaugural Vande Bharat Express train was signalled to depart on the New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi line.

The Vande Bharat Express has a 160 kmph top speed for commercial travel. Currently, the railway can travel between Secunderabad and Vijayawada through Kazipet at a top speed of 130 kmph.

In comparison to the Shatabdi Train, the Vande Bharat Express offers better travel conditions for its passengers.
There are 1,128 seats available on each Vande Bharat, and all of the coaches include automatic doors, GPS-based audio-visual passenger information systems, onboard hotspot Wi-Fi for entertainment, and plush seats.

The introduction of the Vanda Bharat Express between Secunderabad and Tirupati has also been requested by Kishan Reddy to the Railway Ministry. However, given the difficulties in supplying the demand for rolling stock, this will probably take some time.

Integral Coach Factory at Perambur in Chennai is designing and manufacturing Vande Bharat Express trains under the Make in India progamme.

Railways plan to run 75 Vande Bharat trains by August 15, 2023.
