A bandh was observed in several areas of Varanasi after a court ruling permitted Hindu prayers in the cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque, prompting heightened security measures by the police. The city's Muslim-dominated regions saw closed shops, and authorities remained vigilant ahead of Friday prayers.

Following the court's decision, which stirred controversy, the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee called for a shutdown in the town. The impact of the bandh was evident in marketplaces across Dalmandi, Nai Sadak, Nadesar, and Ardal Bazar.

In a statement issued by the committee, it urged market closures and advised peaceful observance of prayers, particularly urging Muslim women to stay indoors. Police Commissioner Ashok Mutha Jain convened a meeting with law enforcement officials to discuss security arrangements.

To ensure tranquility during the day, additional police personnel were deployed from neighboring districts, particularly around Kashi Vishwanath Dham and surrounding areas. The Rapid Police Force (RPF) was stationed in sensitive locations to maintain order.
