The renowned actor, who was 86 years old, had age-related illnesses. Nair chose Poojappura as his stage name because that is where he was born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram.

The actor moved to Marayur, Idukki, at the end of his life to spend his remaining days. Because his cherished wife Thankamma had passed away, he remained at Marayur with his kids and grandkids.
