New Delhi: India's star badminton player Saurabh Verma has continued to perform at the Vietnam Open. Saurabh has confirmed his place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Saurabh Sharma is the defending national champion. Saurabh defeated Japan's Yu Igarashi 25-23, 24-22 in a 52-minute match in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday. In the quarter-finals, World No. 38 Saurabh will face World No. 62 Vietnam's Tien Minh Nguyen, against whom he holds a 0-2 record.
Saurabh defeated Kodai Naroka of Japan by 22-20, 22-20 in 54 minutes in the second round. Siril Verma and Shubhankar Dey suffered defeat in other matches played on Thursday. In the world rankings, Siril of 97th defeated world number 22 Malaysia's Daren Liu by 17-21 21-19 21-12 in a 52-minute second-round match. But in the pre-quarterfinals, they lost by 12-21, 15-21 in a one-sided match against Chinese Lei Lan Xi. The third seed mascot lost to Jia Wei Ten of Malaysia by 11–21, 17–21 in straight games.
