New Delhi: Vijay Kumar Dev, the outgoing Chief Secretary of Delhi and a retired senior IAS officer was sworn in as the new State Election Commissioner of the national capital on Thursday.

In a ceremony held today at Raj Niwas, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal administered the oath of Vijay Kumar Dev as the next Election Commissioner of the State Election Commission of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

"At a celebration conducted at Raj Niwas, administered the oath of office to Vijay Kumar Dev, IAS (Retd.) as new Election Commissioner of the State Election Commission of the National Capital Territory of Delhi," Anil Baijal tweeted.

According to a release from the Lieutenant Governor's office, Vijay Kumar Dev will serve for six years from the date of assumption of office or until he reaches the age of 65.

Dev's appointment comes after State Election Commissioner SK Srivastava announced his retirement.  Meanwhile, Naresh Kumar, a senior IAS officer, has been named the new Chief Secretary of Delhi.
