Visakhapatnam: Against the privatization of a steel plant on Thursday, steel plant workers protested at the hilltop guest house where NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant was staying. NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who visited the MedTech zone on Thursday, was staying at the guest house while activists raised slogans of 'Save Vizag Steel'.

In the same sequence, employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant raised slogans on Tuesday, protesting the privatization of the steel plant in the administrative building. Against this background, workers and trade unions raised concerns over the decision and protested in various capacities. In addition, employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant have staged a sit-in at Jantar Mantar and AP Bhawan in New Delhi to express their concerns over the privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant two weeks ago. The trade unions have sought support from the opposition parties.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is the integrated steel plants of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited in Visakhapatnam. Founded in 1971, the plant focuses on producing value-added steel, with 214,000 tonnes produced in August 2010, out of 252,000 tonnes total of saleable steel produced.
