Visakhapatnam: Unidentified persons reportedly pelted stones at a coach of the new Vande Bharat train at the railway yard at Vizag breaking a glass window, police said.

On January 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off virtually the high-speed express train between Secunderabad and Vizag on January 15.

A preliminary investigation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) revealed that some children playing near the coach complex at Kancharapalem mischievously pelted stones at the train on Wednesday night that caused the damage. The RPF and Visakhapatnam police are both conducting investigations into the matter.

On Wednesday, a rake of the Vande Bharat train arrived in Vizag from Chennai for maintenance checks. The rake was moved to the new coach complex at Kancharapalem after arriving in Vizag, where the incident took place, said the police. They stated that while one window's glass was completely smashed, another only had a little break.

A local police officer said, they are looking for the criminals. Following the event, he continued, security has been stepped up in the region.
