GUJARAT: Gir Somnath district in Gujarat is facing significant waterlogging issues amid heavy rainfall. Drone visuals from Sutrapada City showcase the extent of the problem, with a considerable portion of the city grappling with water accumulation.

To address the situation, six teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in several districts, including Gir Somnath, Kutch, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Rajkot. The NDRF took swift action in response to the heavy downpours on Wednesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Gujarat, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall on 20th and 22nd July. Additionally, Saurashtra and Kutch regions are at risk of receiving extremely heavy rainfall on 21st July.

In Rajkot district's Dhoraji city, severe waterlogging has been reported due to relentless rainfall. A staggering 300 mm of rainfall was recorded in the past few hours, prompting the evacuation of 70 people to safer locations.

The weather situation has been described by the IMD Meteorological Centre Ahmedabad, stating that a cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Madhya Pradesh and its surrounding area at an altitude of 9 km above sea level. The shear zone along Lat. 18° N, situated between 4.5 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level, continues to tilt southwards with height.

For those unfamiliar with weather terms, 'synoptic situation' refers to the pressure pattern, wind direction and speed, as well as the presence of fronts and how they are anticipated to evolve over the upcoming days.
