New Delhi: According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal and Sikkim today. Along with this, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in West Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa.

Last month, July saw almost 10 percent less rainfall than the average, while in August the record for 44 years has been broken. So far in August, 25 percent more rainfall has been received than the average, which is the highest rainfall during the month since 1976. However, according to the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon may slow down in September next month. IMD Director-General, Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra said, "The forecast so far has been proved to be true for the monsoon and the distribution of monsoon across the country has been better and consistent."

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Delhi

He said that "there was spectacular rainfall in the month of August, but in September next month, the pace of monsoon may gradually slow down, but in areas where there has been less rain so far, rain activity may intensify." According to the report, "From August 1 to August 28, the country has recorded 296.2 millimeters of rainfall, while the average rainfall during the month is 237.2 millimeters."
