There is a stir in the corridors of politics in India at this time, as the state of the North-East has remained very tense since the Central Government passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). The fire of North-East has now reached West Bengal as well. On Friday, people protesting the change in citizenship law were set on fire at Beldanga railway station complex in Murshidabad district of the state, while protesters burnt tires on train tracks in Ulbadia in Howrah district. Stones were hurled on trains, affecting train services. On the other hand, the protesters also demonstrated in the park circus area of the metropolis. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced not to allow the CAB to be implemented in Bengal.

According to media reports, the people protesting against the cabs ransacked the premises and some trains, blocking the tracks at Ulubedia railway station on Friday. South Eastern Railway spokesperson Sanjay Ghosh said that the track was blocked at 3.22 pm, disrupting the movement of trains on both up and down routes.

Apart from this, thousands of protesters protesting the amended citizenship bill in Murshidabad district set fire to Beldanga station on Friday and assaulted RPF personnel stationed there. He also blew the train's bogey. Several minority organizations in the district called for large-scale protests. A senior RPF officer said: The protesters suddenly entered the station premises and set the platform, two three-storey buildings and offices on fire. When RPF personnel tried to stop him, he was beaten badly. Train services stopped. Muslim-majority Murshidabad is a district adjoining Bangladesh.
