Kolkata: In view of the increasing cases of global epidemic coronavirus, the West Bengal government has decided to extend the lockdown period. As per the government order, the lockdown will continue till April 30. With this, the Mamta government has announced that all educational institutions in the state will remain closed till June 10.
It is noteworthy that on Saturday, 6 new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered in West Bengal, with the number of infected patients in West Bengal has reached 122. Apart from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Punjab have also decided to increase the lockdown.
At the same time, the Union Home Ministry has expressed objection to the 'gradual relaxation' in the lockdown in West Bengal, saying that shops of non-essential items were allowed to open in the state and the police also allowed religious programs. Giving, CM Mamta Banerjee said that the country is not fighting any "communal virus", but an epidemic. In a letter to West Bengal Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, the Union Home Ministry also said that no caution is being taken in vegetable, fish and meat markets.
