Kolkata: Assembly elections are due in West Bengal. Recently, Minister of State Tapas Roy has given a statement where he remarks his words saying 'the Left-Congress alliance does not have the strength to fight against the BJP and only his party chief Mamata Banerjee can stop the BJP'. He is the TMC MLA of Basirhat where he recently indicated that to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from coming to power in the state, the Left-Congress alliance should join the Trinamool Congress to contest the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. He said all these things while addressing a public meeting in Bankura, West Bengal.

During this, he appealed to the Congress and the Left parties to come together and said, 'They (BJP) are saying that they will rule Bengal. I want to tell Congressmen and leaders of the Left Party that Arup Khan (Onda TMC MLA) will join your procession. The Congress and the Left cannot do it alone, so they came together.' Apart from this, Tapas Roy also said in his address, "If the Left Front and Congress are really anti-BJP, they should cooperate in Mamata Banerjee's fight against the communal and divisive politics of the saffron party."

He further said, 'They should not make the mistake of inviting the more dangerous BJP in Bengal by opposing Mamata Banerjee and TMC. They should look at the situation in Tripura and decide what to do.' The elections for the 294 assembly seats of West Bengal are going to be held this year. In such a situation, a series of allegations and counter-allegations are going on in the opposition.
