In recent times, the craze for online gaming has been rapidly escalating. Within the gaming industry, there exist numerous games that could prove perilous for gamers. Among these, one game stands out: the Blue Whale Challenge. This game has wreaked havoc worldwide over the past few years, and this time, a student from India studying at a university in the United States has fallen victim to its malevolent influence.

Blue Whale Challenge Claims the Life of an Indian Student

According to media reports, the life of a 20-year-old Indian student has been claimed due to the Blue Whale Challenge game. This student, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was studying at the University of Massachusetts in the United States. He was in the first year of his five-year course. On March 8th of this year, the body of this 20-year-old student was found under suspicious circumstances.

Speaking about the case, Greg Miliote, spokesperson for the Bristol County District Attorney, stated that the investigation into this matter is being treated as a clear case of suicide. However, initially, the student's death was deemed a homicide, and his correct identification was also elusive.

A previous report circulating in American media had claimed that this Indian student was studying at Boston University. He was allegedly robbed in the jungle, murdered, and his body was dumped inside a car. Following this rumor, the Boston Globe newspaper had revealed the true identity of the student.

So far, the police have not provided information about the exact cause of death, but it is widely believed that his death occurred due to playing the Blue Whale game.

What is the Blue Whale Challenge?

The Blue Whale is an online game comprising over 50 levels, with each level becoming increasingly difficult. In this game, gamers encounter numerous challenges. As the levels progress, the challenges become exceedingly tough. Gamers are instructed to inflict harm upon themselves, and in the process, many gamers become so engrossed in completing these tasks that they lose their lives.

Over the past 6-7 years, several gamers have lost their lives due to this game. The Indian government had banned this game years ago and issued an advisory in 2017 warning people to steer clear of it, citing it as a provocation to self-harm.

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for heightened awareness and vigilance regarding the dangers posed by online gaming, particularly concerning games like the Blue Whale Challenge.
