We did a bit of our research and have found some valuable information for you. Without wasting any other second of yours, let's look into the important details.

CAT cutoff 2019

Colleges declare a minimum cutoff before you step out to give your examination, to give you a target for preparation. The best IIMs did the same this year as well. But, it is one fact that the cutoff goes far beyond the numbers stated by these colleges. The best IIM colleges demand at least 99 percentile for the interview round. Don?t lose hope already! Other IIMs and some newly opened IIMs make interview calls if you successfully get at least 85 to 95 percentile in your exam. So, if you want to get yourself into IIM, there are plenty of gates waiting just for you.

Sectional CAT cutoff

CAT B-schools cutoffs are divided into two parts, overall and sectional. No matter how great you have performed overall, you will still have to get through the sectional cutoff. Most IIMs and B-school take both these cutoffs in consideration before making admission calls.

What is the meaning of CAT cutoff?

Every year more than 2 lakh candidates appear for CAT examination. So, it becomes very difficult for colleges to shortlist talented candidates. This is where cutoff gets in the picture, it makes the selection process easy for all colleges. All business schools decided to come up with a cutoff to make admission easy for candidates and colleges. Majorly colleges with a good reputation have higher cutoff and it goes down as the reputation decreases. There are many factors that affect the cutoff of a college, college reputation and application of candidates are some of them. All of them are discussed briefly in the section after this. But, before that let us look into the expected cutoff of all IIM.

Expected cutoff of IIM 2019

IIM is definitely no joke and you need to work really hard to get an IIM degree. Things get terribly difficult if you belong to the general or unreserved category, cutoffs are very high for you. The top three IIMs - Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Calcutta - take in students with 99 percentile only. However, IIM Ahmedabad gives a little concession to students coming from Arts and Humanities background.

Other IIMs have slightly low cutoff but not something very easy to achieve. IIM - Lucknow, Kozhikode, and Indore - have a cutoff close to 97 percentile to attract students with low grades. Lowering cutoff became important to attract a large chunk of students. Below listed is a list of IIMs with low cutoff. With no dubiety, we can say that low cutoff has made it possible for various candidates to pursue MBA at IIM.

Now that you know about the expected cutoffs of various IIMs, you must also know factors affecting them. The section below describes what factors actually affect the cutoff of an IIM.

Factors responsible for IIM cutoff

Majorly 4 factors affect the IIM cutoff of a particular year and the ritual has been going on for years now. All these factors are:

1) Candidates appearing for the examination
2) Level of the examination
3) The reputation of a particular IIM
4) Availability of seats in the college

All these four things are taken into consideration before releasing the cutoff to you. It has been done since the foundation of IIM. Let us now look at how each factor affects the admission cutoff. The cutoff gradually increases with the increase in number of aspirants and decreases with decrease in number.  On the other hand, the opposite happens when the paper is difficult, the bar is set low for students. Similarly, when there is an increase in the number of seats available, the cutoff goes down to attract candidates. But, one must note that IIMs with a great reputation have higher cutoff than others. These are definite factors that affect IIM cutoff of every; certain situations also affect the cutoff at times.
