New Delhi: Indira Gandhi, the daughter of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, became the first woman PM of the country and she took many decisions in the interest of the country and many such decisions, which people turned against her. The emergency is one of those decisions. Indira Gandhi was assassinated on 31 October 1984 by her own Sikh bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh.

On the day of her assassination, Indira Gandhi first met the doctor for a routine checkup and was to be interviewed with Peter Ustinov. In which she wanted to look good, so she did not even wear a bulletproof jacket. Indira Gandhi was leaving from Government residence 1 Safdarjung Road at 9.12 am. Meanwhile, her bodyguard started firing bullets at her. Due to which she was badly injured, she was rushed to AIIMS Hospital. The car moved towards AIIMS at a rapid pace, as well as reported it to the senior cardiologist.

According to media reports, there was a slight stir in Indira's heartbeat. The pupils of her eyes were dilated, which showed that her brain was severely damaged. A tube was inserted through Indira's mouth into her windpipe so that oxygen could reach the lungs. Indira was given 80 bottles of blood, but could not save her life.
