Ranchi: The mid-day meal scheme amount for the financial year 2021-22 has not been spent so far by the state mid-day meal authority in Jharkhand. Now, the Hemant Soren government in the state is confused about how to demand money from the Centre for the upcoming financial year. The State Government has initiated the process of tendering for preparation of food packets from the amount of cooking cost. Let us know that due to the Corona epidemic, the mid-day meal scheme was closed in schools since March 17, 2020. The mid-day meal rice was being sent to the children to their homes in their homes.

Along with that, the amount of cooking cost was to be provided to the children. From February 4, 2022, the mid-day meal has started to become a mid-day meal in schools. There are about 21 lakh children in the first to fifth grades and 12 lakh students in classes VI to VIII, who get the benefit of mid-day meal.  The cooking cost has been fixed at Rs 4.95 for children of classes I to V and Rs 7.45 for classes VI to VIII. During the closure of the school, the amount was to be given to the children, but the amount for the current financial year could neither be paid nor has it been given for purchase. From March 17, 2020, the mid-day meal was stopped in schools, so the amount of cooking cost in Jharkhand was paid in cash to the students by September. In view of the problem of under-payment, the Central Government also directed to prepare food packets.

Initially, the food packets were to be prepared through the schools, but the government later floated a tender to prepare food packets at the state level and distribute them in schools. After this, the amount from October 2020 to March 2021 is being given in the bank account of the children for the last few months. Out of the 33 lakh children, 15 lakh children could not get the amount due to lack of bank accounts, so the state government has decided to give them cash. Now the government has floated a fresh tender to give food packets from the amount of cooking cost from April 2021 to January 2022.

Let us know that the central government's Project Approval Board (PAB) will meet on March 23-24 regarding the mid-day meal scheme. The meeting was scheduled to be held on March 3, but the date has been extended. In this, the Jharkhand government will demand money for 33 lakh children. At the same time, the proposal to repair the kitchen shed, prepare the kitchen utensils, kitchen garden will be given again. The amount of cooking cost will also be increased in view of the price rise after the pack meeting.
