New Delhi: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Monday said in the lower house of Parliament that the responsibility of reducing pollution in the national capital lies with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The Union Minister made it clear that the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) in the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas has adopted a participatory and collaborative approach to tackle the issues of air pollution in the region.

Bhupender Yadav said during question hour that it is the responsibility of the local government to reduce pollution. In fact, the Union minister was responding to a question by BJP MP from Delhi, Pravesh Sahib Singh, who accused the Kejriwal government of adopting a lackadaisical approach to solve Delhi's pollution problem and claimed that the city government was only doing jumlebaazi instead of taking any concrete action.

Quoting the CAQM, Bhupender Yadav said that following the apex court's order, the commission had invited suggestions from stakeholders, including general public, for medium and long-term solutions for prevention and control of air pollution in NCR. A large number of multi-sectoral issues and suggestions related to control of air pollution have been received from various stakeholders and the general public. An expert committee set up to examine suggestions for controlling air pollution in the region is holding discussions with stakeholders and experts on a regular basis to adopt measures.
