Tamil Nadu: In a stern statement against discrimination under the government scheme, Tamil Nadu HR&CE (Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment) Minister had lunch with Ashwini on Friday, 29 October at the same Sthalasayana Perumal temple, which had earlier served her food. had refused. Ashwini ate 'annadhanam' or ritual temple free food with a child in her lap. He was accompanied by ministers on both sides and commissioners of HR and CE. Other members of Narikurva community (who belongs to Ashwini) who were also denied food, ate with both. Apart from this, Tirupurur MLA SS Balaji also had lunch with the party.

A few days ago, a video of Ashwini, a Narikurva woman in Mamallapuram, went viral, asking Ashwini why she and her community were denied the 'Annadhanam' served at the temple in Mamallapuram. Ashwini hails from Puncheri village and belongs to a community of nomads whose members now sell pearls and jewelery to earn a living. He was born and brought up in Mamallapuram where the temple is located.

“It was afternoon and we were standing in a queue for food. The first round of leaves were laid but we could not find a place. Then when the second round happened, we sat down. But, a man from the temple came and asked us to leave. He said that if there is any left over food, he will give it to us outside the temple. He asked us to stand outside,” she says in the video. According to reports, the video caught the attention of the Chief Minister, whose office directed the issue to the Minister of Human Resources and CE. Kancheepuram HR&CE Joint Commissioner P Jayaraman was again asked to trace them.
