Mumbai: Muslim women are entitled to maintenance till the second marriage after divorce. A Mumbai court while delivering this verdict has asked a 40-year-old man to pay Rs 50,000 for the treatment of his wife. The woman got divorced with her husband in 2017.

Actually, the woman married the man in 2004. Thereafter, the relatives of the husband harassed the woman for dowry. The woman's father had also given a dowry of Rs 2 lakh after the marriage. The woman alleges that she was harassed not only mentally but also physically. Thereafter, the two divorced by consensus. In 2018, the woman had kidney failure and required dialysis at regular intervals. In such a situation, the woman approached the court and told the court that she has no source of income while her husband has a junk business and earns lakhs of rupees every month. The woman had appealed to the court to get the maintenance from her husband.

The woman had told the court that despite having a good income, her husband did not give her maintenance. At the same time, the husband denied these allegations and said that he never misbehaved with her. The husband told the court that since he got divorced in 2017, he has no right to pay for the treatment. He had claimed that the woman has filed this appeal only to exploit him. Not only this, but the person had also claimed that his family members were also dependent on him, so the woman's petition should be dismissed. The Dadar court, citing the Supreme Court's decision, said that a divorced wife is also entitled to maintenance. Not only this, the court said that the documents produced by the woman show that she is in need of treatment and has no means of earning.
