LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, ordered the demotion of a deputy superintendent of police after he was found guilty of taking bribes to have a rape case suppressed, which is unprecedented.
The officer's current position is that of constable, where his career actually began.

Official sources claim that DSP Vidya Kishore Sharma has been demoted as a result of the government being aware of a video showing him receiving a Rs 5 lakh bribe.

In 2021, Sharma was the DSP at the time of the incident. Later, he was transferred.

The owner of Swami Vivekanand Hospital and Inspector Ramveer Yadav were accused of gang-raping a woman last year, but the police did nothing about her accusation. She further asserted that the police officer had taken a bribe from the defendant.

The UP government suspended the inspector and requested that Yadav be the subject of a FIR. Sharma was found guilty of receiving the bribe following an investigation. Before being demoted, Sharma was on suspension.

Bribe of Rs. 5 lakh in a gangrape case: A woman claimed that two men, including hospital manager Vinod Yadav and sub-inspector Ramveer Yadav, gang-raped her in 2021, but the police failed to act because they had been paid off. Sharma ran into issues after a video of him stealing a bag of cash appeared on social media. The bag allegedly contained Rs 5 lakh, which Sharma allegedly used to sabotage the case's investigation.

Sharma was suspended and an FIR was filed against the two accused after the video appeared.

On the government's instructions, the probe was then turned over to ASP Moradabad. The charges of receiving a bribe against Vidya Kishore Sharma were proven to be genuine during the investigation.
