India's Yuki Bhambri has won the main draw of the fourth Tata Open Maharashtra tennis tournament starting January 31. Yuki, 29, is playing at the Australian Open after recovering from injury. He has been ranked in this prestigious competition due to 'protected ranking'. The tournament is set to return after a break due to coronavirus. In addition to world number 18 Aslan Karatsev and defending champion Jiri Vesley, 7 other players in the top 100 are set to clash for the title in this only ATP tournament in South Asia. The tournament is scheduled to be played at Balewadi Stadium.
Talking about the 2018 match, Indian star Yuki Bhambri, who was playing in the men's singles at the ongoing French Open tournament in Paris, crashed out of the tournament after losing in straight sets to Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans in the first round here at the time. In another match, Rohan Bopanna also started his campaign in men's doubles with his French teammate Eduard Roger Veselin.
Playing here, the world number 93 Yuki of India lost 4-6, 4-6, 1-6 at the hands of the 100th ranked player. This was the second match between Yuki and Bemelmans. Earlier in the ATP Delhi Open 2015, Yuki Bhambri of India had registered a spectacular victory here.
