Mumbai: On December 27, a press conference was held in Latur, Maharashtra, of members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Front. Releasing a statement after the press talk, District President Afzal Khan and former Mayor Akhtar Sheikh said that 'the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) are against the Constitution and the Muslim community. Our community is being treated unfairly and it is irrational and incomprehensible for us to stay with this unfair party. '

According to Live Mint, around 100 Muslim members of the Latur BJP unit have opted out of the party since this press conference. Speaking to the media, Afzal Khan has said that he had also sent letters to PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and the state leadership, expressing their objection after the Act was passed. But he did not get any response, so he resorted to resignation.

Hamid Sheikh, secretary of Latur's BJP Minority Cell, said that most Muslims never vote for the BJP. He said that even we cannot defend BJP on this (CAA and adjacent NRC). He said, 'Modi and Amit Shah are lacking in destiny and their motives are not right.
