1,055,160 doses of corona vaccines dispatched to Northeast states

India has started its vaccination drive against coronavirus from January 16 in a phased manner starting with prioritised groups of health care workers and frontline workers. The roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine is being done simultaneously across all states and UTs.The Northeastern states have stated their vaccination campaign.  A total of 1,055,160 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been supplied to the Northeastern states till February 1.

 Union minister of state for health and family welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday said the government has sufficient doses of COVID-19 vaccine available for the on-going phase of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country. Chaubey further said that the existing cold storage facilities under the Universal Immunization Programme have been further strengthened and are being used for storing corona vaccine. The available storage space is sufficient to store COVID-19 vaccines already supplied to states and UTs.

Arunachal Pradesh has been provided with 62,000 doses, Assam 6,08,160, Manipur 1,02,000, Meghalaya 69,000, Mizoram 35,000, Nagaland 49,500, Sikkim 26,500 and Tripura has been provided with 1,03,000 number of doses.

Meanwhile, With its 1.3 billion population, India has the world's second-highest number of coronavirus infections -- more than 10.8 million -- but new cases and deaths have fallen sharply in recent weeks.
