Guwahati: All the districts of Assam except Kokrajhar have been affected by Japanese Encephalitis (JE). On Saturday, another patient died at Haifang Hospital in Dima Hasao district. With this, 50 people have lost their lives so far from JE. In view of the situation, the state government has intensified efforts to deal with the disease with the cancellation of medical holidays.

The first victim was 60-year-old Kunjalta Hakkamkasa JE in Dima Hasao district. He was admitted to Haflong Civil Hospital last week. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Saturday. On Saturday, the state health department has issued a notification cancelling all holidays for doctors, nurses and other health sector employees till September 30.

Health Minister Hemant Biswa Sharma has said, "Only the deputy commissioner will be allowed leave in case of emergency." We have also instructed that no doctors, nurses or other health workers will go out of their posting sins. If no one is found on duty during this period, strict action will be taken against him. Also, an FIR will be lodged against the person concerned for the unofficial absence as criminal negligence. '
