60,000 rupees reward for giving information about dog killer in Manipur

Manipur: In Thoubal district of Manipur, two groups of dog lovers, including The Manipur Dog Lovers Club and Yenning Animal Foundation, have now announced a reward of Rs. Demanding justice for the animals, both the clubs have started a campaign on Tuesday. Earlier, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine under the Government of Meghalaya has issued an order regarding the killing of dogs on September 9, 2021, calling for a ban on all types of dogs.

The order said that the killing of stray dogs or pet dogs is an offense punishable under sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Also, killing dogs for meat is also a punishable offence. Violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011.

The killing of stray dogs or domesticated dogs and the slaughter of dogs for meat is prohibited in the state of Meghalaya. Any person contravening this order shall be punished under sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and/or such other provisions of law as may be applicable. This order was shared by the Meghalaya government on its official Twitter handle. The tweet read, "Killing of stray dogs or pet dogs and killing dogs for meat is prohibited in the state of Meghalaya."
