644 terrorists surrendered in front of CM Sarbananda Sonowal

A huge program of surrender has been completed on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. 644 militants from 8 banned organizations of Assam surrendered to the CM. The militants also deposited 177 weapons to the police. Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahant has confirmed this. Mahant said that today is a special day for the Assam government and the police.

The surrendering members are United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), National Democratic Front of India (NDFB), RNLF, KLO, Communist Party of India (Maoist), National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA), Adivasi Dragon Fighter (ADF) and National Liberation Front of Bengali (NLFB). These include 50 members of ULFA, 8 of NDFB, 1 of CPI (M), 178 of ADF and 301 of NLFB.

The NDFB signed a tripartite agreement with the government earlier this month to end its operations. According to the agreement, the NDFB will stop all extremist violent activities, including the kingpin B. Saoraigavara and join the peace talks with the government. The tripartite agreement included the NDFB, the central government, and the Assam government. Several active members of the NDFB along with Saoraigavara arrived in India from Myanmar on 11 January.
