Everybody has heard about the clichéd rags to riches story, but very few are aware of what goes behind it. You see, not everyone is blessed with a silver spoon in their childhood and there are many who have had to work hard throughout their lives to get where they are today. DJ AD is just one of them, an inspirational person and an inspiration to us all. He shared with us his inspiring story.

What did you do before starting your journey?

I actually never pursued a career in music, I was more interested in computer science back in our high school days. But as fate would have it, I was introduced to DJing at a really early age, while I was still in High School. The transition from being a computer science major to being a full-time DJ & Music producer was pretty seamless. With time, I grew to love the craft of mixing music alone, and it became an integral part of my life. I have been a part of many professional and amateur events since 2013  and I have also been responsible for Djing at parties and events.

The struggles of being a fresh beginner in the music industry

At the start of your career, you are still a beginner and most likely you don't have any experience in the industry. And that can be an extremely tough situation as you don't know where to start and what to do. I remembered from starting I don't have a music console or even a computer, I usually return back from school and my father give me 1 hour to practice on his computer, my father is a professional photographer and he has a personal computer for his work purposes, that time I don't have any money in my pocket so I downloaded free demo music production software and I used to work on the same project from the beginning because it doesn't have any save project options so I use to make the same project again and again and its make my track perfect day by day because I always say - practice makes you perfect. When I was in the nascent stages of my career, I did receive a lot of criticism from fellow DJs (both beginners and experienced people) for taking up a job as a professional DJ. There were even people who advised me to drop the profession as it was not lucrative enough. In fact, quite a few musicians from the industry have advised me to take up a job related to music production. As a beginner, there aren't that many places where you can land a gig or make money from music. This can create a lot of frustration and you start feeling like giving up. However, you need to stay strong, through it all, and work towards getting where you want to be.

Summary

During my journey, I have had to face a lot of challenges and hardships, but it has made me the person I am today. I now understand the importance of hard work and perseverance, two qualities that are really important to succeed in the music industry. Now that I have made it big in the profession, I want to share my knowledge with aspiring DJ s/ musicians who want to make it big as well. I believe that by sharing our knowledge, we can help a lot of people in this industry, who otherwise would not have got a chance. The truth is, there are many talented people out there who don't have the opportunity to learn from experienced people. We as DJs can help them by sharing our knowledge with them.

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring DJs, what would it be?

It is important that you are passionate about the profession and you want to make a career out of it. If you are interested in music and you want to play music for a living, then the profession of DJing is for you. You can never know when your passion might lead to a successful career.
