Prashant Bhushan said in the apex court, 'I am shocked and disappointed that the court has reached this conclusion without giving any proof of my intentions in this case. The court did not give me a copy of the complaint. I am hard to believe that the court found that my tweet tried to destabilize the foundation of the institution.

Prashant Bhushan said, 'Open criticism is necessary in a democracy. We are living in a time when saving constitutional principles should be more important than personal assurance. Failing to speak will be an insult to duty. It would be bad enough for me to apologize for my authentic remarks. Prashant Bhushan quotes Mahatma Gandhi's statement saying, 'I do not appeal for mercy. Whatever punishment is received by the court for my authentic statement, I accept it.
