Air India to get new owner by NEXT month: Aviation minister Puri

New Delhi: The Government of India is all set to announce the candidate who won the bid for Air India (Air India) by October 15. The Central Government has proposed to end the disinvestment process for the national carrier by the middle of next month. Sources said, october 15 is likely to be fixed for the announcement of the winning bid for Air India, while financial bids received for the carrier may be opened anytime this week.

According to sources, 85 percent of the bid price will be for Air India's debt, while 15 percent will be in cash. On September 25, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that the disinvestment process of Air India is in its direction and technical bids are being analyzed before financial bids are opened. Apart from Tata Sons and SpiceJet Chief Ajay Singh, others have submitted financial bids to the government for Air India.

Sources indicated that Tata Sons is at the forefront of holding on to Air India, all bids will be evaluated on various parameters and the winner bidder will be announced after the approval of the Group of Ministers (GOM) headed by the Home Minister.
