Akal Takht came out in support of Muslims opposing CAA-NRC

Chandigarh: Akal Takht, the supreme institution of Sikhism, has lent its support to Muslim organizations protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). A senior Takht official told the media on Saturday that Akal Takht chief Giani Harpreet Singh met a delegation led by Delhi Minorities Commission Chief Zafarul Islam Khan in Amritsar and assured him of support.

Giani Harpreet Singh told the visiting Muslim delegation that the minorities have feelings of insecurity and fear and Sikhs are forced to stand with the suffering people. He has thanked Sikhs for standing with Muslims and others for CAA and NRC. The Chief of the Takht reportedly said that he had been urged to support on behalf of other Muslim groups as well.

Prakash Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the five-time chief minister of Punjab, also took a tough stance two days ago, saying that those who are in power at the Center and the state should decide that the country should operate The secular democratic ethos enshrined in the Constitution should be in accordance.
