MAHARASTRA: In a successful rescue mission, all 14 crew members of a tugboat that had gone adrift in the Arabian Sea off the Alibag coast in Maharashtra's Raigad district have been safely evacuated. According to a police official on Friday, the operation was conducted with the assistance of the Coast Guard.

The rescue operation began around 9 am and involved a Coast Guard helicopter. The chopper airlifted the crew from the distressed tugboat and transported them to Alibag beach, where they were safely delivered. The Police Chief confirmed that all 14 crew members are in good condition.

The tugboat, operated by the JSW Group, encountered severe weather conditions between Jaigarh and Salav, which led to its drifting. The company stated that strong winds and low visibility contributed to the situation. The vessel's engine failure near the Kolaba fort off Alibag coast further complicated the rescue efforts.

Authorities, including the Raigad police, Coast Guard, and revenue officials, were on high alert. However, the rescue was challenging due to heavy rainfall, high tides, and strong winds.
