American citizen killed in Ukraine's Chernihiv: Report

WASHINGTON – According to reports in the media, an American citizen was killed in Ukraine's Chernihiv as a result of a "strong artillery strike" by Russian forces.  "We can confirm the death of a US citizen in Ukraine on March 17," the spokeswoman said late Thursday, according to the BBC.

"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family on their bereavement. We have no more statement out of respect for the family during this terrible time." According to a New York Times report, the victim has been named as James Whitney Hill, who was murdered by heavy artillery bombardment on unarmed residents in the city, according to the BBC.

As per The New York Times report, Hill travelled to Ukraine with his Ukrainian partner last December to have her multiple sclerosis treated at a local hospital. Hill had been writing about the deteriorating situation in recent weeks.

"Every day, people are killed while attempting to flee. However, bombs fall here at night. In either case, there is a risk "'I wrote on Facebook,' he said."I only have access to the internet for a few hours each day. We've got enough food to last a few days."
