Bangalore: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to visit Bangalore today, April, 21, for a 2-day tour of the poll-bound state during which he will hold a roadshow and crucial meeting on countering rebellion.
This is his prime visit to Karnataka following the announcement of candidates which has lead to the defection of senior Lingayat leaders from the party.
The Union Minister will reach Bangalore airport by noon. He will hold a road show in Devanahalli, in the outskirts of Bangalore and will also conduct a marathon meeting in connection with the developments after the exit of former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and ex-Deputy CM Laxman Savadia.
In the final 20 days leading up to the elections, the home minister will plan his or her strategy. Shah's main concern, according to sources, would be to ensure that the Lingayat vote bank, which is the BJP Karnataka unit's main source of strength, stays with the saffron party.
Shah will give the strategy for winning over voters in the Old Mysuru region of south Karnataka same weight. The BJP wants to strengthen its influence in the area. In Bangalore, which has 28 Assembly seats, he would also concentrate on obtaining more seats.
According to sources, Amit Shah will collect information on Shettar and Savadi's supporters and plan how to defeat them. Additionally, he has asked for information on any party leaders who have left the state at whatever level.
After receiving feedback from the state leaders, he will also finalise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rallies, roadshows, and other programming. Amit Shah is particularly interested in the Kanakapura and Varuna seats, where the BJP has nominated ministers R. Ashoka and V. Somanna to run against the presidents of the Karnataka Congress and the opposition leader, respectively, D.K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah.
