Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Uttarakhand on Wednesday to undertake stock of the situation in the rain-ravaged parts of Uttarakhand. Shah will also hold review meetings for the situation arising out of incessant rains.
Three days of relentless rains have left a trail of death and devastation in the state killing 52 people, damaging roads, bridges and railway tracks, in addition, destroying the standing crops.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt and Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party president Madan Kaushik received Shah at the Jolly Grant Airport on his arrival around midnight on Wednesday.
The NDRF has, meanwhile, rescued over 1,300 people from flood-affected areas in the state and enhanced its rescue teams from 15 to 17, the federal force said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, as per today update, the death toll in rain-ravaged Uttarakhand touched 54, two more bodies were recovered today. More or less five people are still missing. The Army, along with multiple teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local authorities are conducting rescue and relief operations.
