Trichy: In Dalmiyapuram, the Miyawaki forest is being established and maintained by the municipality at the site of the Dalmia cement plant. Kallakudi Municipality has received the Best Municipality Award by Chief Minister MK Stalin. Miyawaki's forests are completely organic. The urban forest is being developed using the Miyawaki technique pioneered by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki, in which area-specific native species are planted close to each other to allow them to grow faster and protect the environment.

Plants planted with this technique grow 10 times faster and have 100 times more biodiversity. The waste is collected and made into natural manure. In this regard battery auto has been provided for garbage collection through solid waste management scheme provided by the government at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,20,000. However, this auto has to be charged for 5 hours daily.

To make it easier for the sanitation workers, the current Municipal Executive Officer, Zakul Hameed, focused on saving electricity and equipped the battery vehicle with solar panels for Rs 60,000. This saves electricity costs and eliminates wastage of time.
