JALANDHAR: In a momentous event, Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, inaugurated the newly constructed, state-of-the-art hockey turf ground at the BSF campus in Jalandar, Punjab. The ceremony took place on Monday in the presence of BSF Director General Nitin Agrawal, adding grandeur to the occasion.

PV Rama Sastry and SDG (Western Command) Atul Fulzele, accompanied by IG Border Security Force (BSF), Punjab Frontier, joined other esteemed BSF officials and sports icons as they witnessed the momentous inauguration.

During the event, the minister emphasized that the newly constructed stadium had obtained all necessary approvals from the Hockey Federation of India, ensuring its compliance with international standards. This endorsement guarantees that the ground is equipped to host top-level hockey competitions.

Expressing his delight, the minister commended the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for their unwavering financial support in developing the hockey turf ground. This investment symbolizes the government's unwavering commitment to foster sports infrastructure and promote overall development.

The newly constructed facility is a prized possession for the Sports Authority of India. It signifies the beginning of a new era for world-class hockey infrastructure within the BSF premises and the Jalandhar region, as stated in a release by the BSF.

Delving into Punjab's rich sports legacy, the Union minister acknowledged the state's contribution to India's sporting heritage. Punjab has produced exceptional athletes who have excelled on national and international stages.

He further applauded the BSF for its noteworthy sports legacy, emphasizing the organization's dedication to promoting sports and nurturing talented individuals.

During his address, the minister shed light on the government's flagship program, Khelo India, and its relentless efforts to promote and nurture sporting talent across the nation.

Highlighting the significance of hockey as the national game, he mentioned that BSF sports personnel have been privileged to receive three Padma Shri awards and 17 Arjuna Awards across various disciplines. Many BSF athletes have proudly represented India in numerous national and international sporting events.
