If ongoing buzz in media and film industry is to be believed, Anushka Shetty is going to replace lady superstar Nayantara in an upcoming movie Ponniyin Selvan in which Keerthy Suresh and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are playing the key roles, which is directed by Mani Ratnam. Recently, reports had come out that Nayanthara has been roped in to play an important role in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. The fans welcomed this news whole-heartedly but now, the latest reports claim that she has been replaced by Anushka.

If the news regarding Anushka Shetty coming on board for the project is to be believed, then Ponniyin Selvan would mark the big comeback of the popular actress to the Tamil film industry. Meanwhile, Anushka Shetty will also appear in the upcoming multi-lingual movie titled Silence. Nayantara was supposed to do Poonguzhali’s role in this epic visual extravaganza. But as Nayantara has signed Vijay starrer ongoing sports drama and Rajinikanth starrer Darbar, she reportedly couldn’t allot dates for Mani Ratnam’ film, So the director Mani Ratnam approached Anushka Shetty to play the key role. 

Ponniyin Selvan is the film version of Kalki Krishnamurthy's classic novel of the same name and is said to feature an ensemble cast including Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Amitabh Bachchan, Keerthi Suresh, Aishwarya Rai, and Sathyaraj. It must be noted that when Maniratnam had planned before few years to make Ponniyin Selvan, Anushka was a part of the planned cast.
