On Friday night, one person, Sakradhar Swargiary (60), was brutally assaulted by people in the Oujuli Rongagora hamlet under Chariduar Police station in Sonitpur district in the name of witchcraft. The event has increased tensions in the Rongagora region.

From Dhekiajuli, Rangapara, Chariduar, and Jamuguri, the northern belt of Sonitpur district has seen several incidents of witch hunting and the resulting harassment of many innocent people. Three people have been detained in this case, according to OC Chariduar Pradip Rajkhowa. Sunil Doimari, Maheswar Basumatary, and Pradip Khaklary have been identified.
