Guwahati: A case of moral policing has come to light from the Bishwanath district of Assam where a Muslim man embarrassed a young woman for wearing jeans and kicked her out of the shop. In fact, the young woman had come to the mobile phone accessories store to buy earphones. Not only that, he also refused to give earphones.

Police said the incident took place at a mobile phone accessories store in Vishwanath Chariali, about 230 kilometres from Guwahati, where the girl had gone to buy an earphone. She said shop owner Noorul Amin not only refused to give her earphones but also taunted the girl for coming in jeans instead of the burqa. Police sources said the owner then pushed the girl out of the shop.

The girl's father said, 'My daughter was abused and the owner kicked her out of the shop for wearing jeans instead of the burqa. These people are trying to bring Taliban rule in Assam and forcing girls to wear burqas and hijabs.' He said, 'We are born in Assam and follow Assamese culture. My daughter is doing BCA. He studied at a government school, not a private school. She has studied Assamese culture.''
