Thiruvananthapuram: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcemnt Directorate (ED) and the Customs conducted separate investigations into the racket that was busted with the seizure of gold worth Rs 15 crore from the diplomatic baggage of the UAE Consulate at Thiruvananthapuram airport on July 5, 2020.

Several people including Sivasankar, the former Principal Secretary to the Kerala Chief Minister, former employees of the UAE consulate, Suresh and Sarith P.S, were arrested in connection with the case.

Separate investigations were conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and Customs into the racket that was busted on July 5, 2020, when gold worth Rs 15 crore was seized from the diplomatic baggage of the UAE Consulate at Thiruvananthapuram airport. In connection with the case, several people were arrested, including Sivasankar, the former Principal Secretary to the Kerala Chief Minister, former employees of the UAE consulate, Suresh, and Sarith P S.

The NIA had earliertold the high court that Suresh and others committed a terrorist act by smuggling 167 kg of gold into India from the UAE between November 2019 and June 2020, knowing that doing so would jeopardise the country's security and economic stability.
