GUWAHATI: The situation in Assam is getting worse due to floods triggered by incessant torrential rains. Several districts of Assam are currently inundated. About 42,28,157 lakh people are affected by the floods. So far, 71 people have lost their lives due to floods and landslides. The flood situation has worsened so much that people are forced to leave their homes and live in relief camps. Two policemen were washed away in flood waters in Central Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday night. According to information provided by the police, the constable and an officer had gone out late at night to take stock of the flood. During this time, both the policemen were washed away in the flood water. The body of the constable has been recovered, but the search for the missing police officer is still on.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will hold discussions with the Deputy Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Officer today, June 20, regarding the current flood situation. CM Sharma himself informed this through Twitter. At the same time, the rescue operation of the Indian Army is continuing for the fourth consecutive day.
