Rampur: In more than two dozen cases, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MP from Rampur Lok Sabha seat Azam Khan is going through the most difficult phase of his political career. A number of criminal cases have been filed against him in the past, but their troubles are not confined to that.
The district administration of Rampur, the SP leader's ancestral town, is now considering listing Azam Khan as a land mafia on the 'anti-land mafia' portal of the yogi government in the state. Soon after assuming power in Uttar Pradesh in 2017, CM Yogi Adityanath had launched the portal to identify land mafia and lodge complaints against land grabbers.
According to the police, more than 30 cases have been registered against newly elected Lok Sabha member Azam Khan. Most of the cases are grabbing government land and land of the poor. Rampur Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said that in view of several land grabbing cases, discussions are being held on listing Azam Khan's name in the 'Anti-Geo Mafia' portal.
