CHENNAI: The founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), Kamal Haasan, declared on Friday that Rahul Gandhi of the Congress is engaged in a campaign known as the Bharat Jodo Yatra that goes beyond politics and that it is our responsibility to "reclaim" the nation's "lost honour." Gandhi's pan-Indian foot march, which began in Tamil Nadu in September of last year, brought Haasan to Delhi last month.

It is our obligation to regain the Bharat's lost ethos. This yatra (Bharat Jodo campaign) is above politics, the politician-actor informed reporters.

He added that he was making efforts to obtain permission to hold the bull-taming sport, known as "Jallikattu," in Chennai. He noted that the idea was to give city inhabitants a chance to see the sport in its prime.

The harvest festival Pongal and the Jallikattu are often celebrated in Madurai during the second week of January.

Kamal Haasan, who is the president of the Makkal Needhi Maiam will also record a one-on-one conversation with Rahul Gandhi with whom he is said to share a close rapport. The conversation will be made public eventually, like the Congress leader’s chat with the former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan.

Kamala. Haasan, one of the biggest movie icons in South India, is the latest celebrity to be taking part in the Yatra.
