MUMBAI :  The Shiv Sena has made general suggestions that it may back Draupadi Murmu of the NDA, and not the non-BJP Opposition's nominee, Yashwant Sinha, here on Tuesday.

While speaking with the media, Shiv Sena MP and Chief Spokesperson Sanjay Raut made this statement, mentioning that party President Uddhav Thackeray would make his choice in the next day or two.

"Supporting Murmu is distinct from backing the Bharatiya Janata Party. The public's sentiments would be considered when making the decision "In the midst of calls from its former ally in saffron to support the BJP, Raut made his position clear.

The majority of Sena MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and also some other prominent figures, met on Monday, July 11, and according to the Sena, Thackeray discussed the presidential elections issue and other issues in detail.

"Even Balasaheb Thackeray once held similar discussions with party leaders on important matters, and judgments were taken based on the opinions of the comrades. Also, the candidacy of Murmu was discussed at the meeting yesterday "Raut said.  He said that the Sena has nothing but goodwill for Sinha while emphasising that supporting Murmu does not entail supporting the BJP.
