New Delhi: If you also like to travel by flight, then this news is for you. There has been a major change in the rules of air travel by the DGCA. Under the new scheme, whether the handicapped passenger is fit to travel by flight or not, will not be decided by the airline companies but the doctors will decide. If the doctor refuses to board the flight by giving a proper reason for the test, then only then the person will be denied the flight.

The order, issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a regulator of the airline companies, to the airline companies, said, "The airline shall not refuse to allow any passenger to travel on a flight on the ground of disability. If an airline feels that the health of the passengers may deteriorate due to the flight, then the said passengers will have to be examined by a doctor. The doctor will give information about the medical condition of the passenger. The doctor will tell if the passenger is fit to fly. Airlines companies will be able to take a decision only on the advice of the doctor.''

The DGCA's decision comes after the incident at Ranchi airport where IndiGo refused to board a disabled child on the plane. There was also a lot of opposition to this incident. The DGCA had also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on this act of IndiGo.
