New Delhi: India, which is facing a population explosion, will overtake China next year in terms of population. In fact, on the occasion of World Population Day on Monday, the United Nations (UN) released a report stating that by 2023, India will become the world's most populous country. At present, China has a population of 1.426 billion and India's population is 1.412 billion.

It is believed that India's population will increase to 1.429 billion in 2023. By 2050, the number will reach 1.668 billion. At the same time, China's population is also expected to decline in the middle of the century. China's population will decline to 1.317 billion. The United Nations estimates that the entire world's population will touch the 8 billion mark on 15 November 2022. However, it is a matter of relief that the world's population is growing at the lowest rate since 1950. According to the report, the rate of population growth has declined by 1 per cent in 2020. The latest estimate also shows that the world's population will cross the 8.5 billion mark by 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050. John Wilmoth, director of the Population Division at the United Nations, has reported that in 2080 the population will be at its peak and reach 10.4 billion.

According to the report, by 2050, half of the world's population will be in only 8 countries. These include Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Philippines and Tanzania. At the moment, the population of 46 developed countries is the fastest growing, of which 32 countries are from sub-Saharan Africa. It is estimated that by 2050, more than half of the world's population will be in this area. At the same time, there are 61 countries whose population will decrease between 2022 and 2050. The largest number of these countries will be in Europe.
